The “Posada” (“inn” or “lodging”) project grew out of the need to house the families of children in the hospital who are receiving long term cancer care. We partnered with the San Peregrino Foundation, a Paraguayan charity whose mission is to help the children obtain food, lodging and chemotherapy drugs, to purchase a plot of land adjacent to the hospital and construct the 6 room posada. We continue to work side by side with San Peregrino, which oversees the day-to-day operation of Posada Emily. Up and running since May 2017, the Posada serves some 3,500 meals a month and has accommodated 40 families in the past year for stays of one week to three months. Unfortunately for many children, Posada Emily operates at capacity and the San Peregrino Foundation must work hard to find solutions for children and families that must be turned away.
